really, who is Ben Hustis?
Benjamin Hustis was born in Dallas, Texas. His parents are Jonathan and Marion Hustis (nee Condon) and his sister is Rachel. He grew up in the Lake Highlands suburbs, and moved to White Rock Lake during his junior year of high school. Along the way he picked up an affinity for graphic design, football, and loud electronic music. Following this formative period of his life, he attended Stetson University in Deland, Florida, where he majored in Digital Art and minored in frat-tasticness. He decided to focus on digital video, specifically live performance, while also playing rugby and planning events. He met Busta Rhymes. Some of his most valued teachers were Michael Demurga, Cyriaco Lopes, and Matt Roberts. He was one of the founding members of Stetson's acclaimed Mobile Performance Group, and was invited to shows at Art Basel in Miami as well as the Flux Festival in Rhode Island.
After college, he drifted for about six months. House painting was involved, as well as a live visual performance in Miami at the "Aquabooty" party during Art Basel.
He moved to Colorado to crash with a fraternity brother, and within a week and a half, he was living in the mountains and working for Sharpshooter Imaging. He spent one season there, went back to Denver for the summer/fall, started doing visuals for [debut], and learned how to brew coffee. He is in fact a certified barista, with a lapel pin to prove it. Following this summer, he returned to Winter Park and spent another season breaking his snowboard and learning to ski, as well as setting sales records with his Junior Olympics race photography. He got involved with the ruffians at Adrenaline Garage Productions, and designed graphics both for their Winter Park projects and So Gnar TV, their snowboarding reality show. He and his mohawk were even featured in an episode.
While languishing in the Sharpshooter shack watching Alpine Slide riders during the summer, he decided he needed to get out of town. So he moved to Philadelphia and learned to be an EMT. That got him pretty far, because he's working as a bike messenger right now.
Further details to come.
